This site counts visits, using Google Analytics, and that is the only thing watching you here. There is no advertising, and nothing follows you away from this site.
What the counting does
I could not previously tell whether anybody was reading this site at all, which made it impossible to know which of it was worth writing. Google Analytics answers that. It records that a page was viewed, roughly where in the world the visit came from, whether it arrived from Pinterest or a search or a typed address, and it sets a cookie so a second page view in the same visit is not counted as a second person.
It does not tell me who you are, and I do not try to find out. I have no way to connect a visit to a name, and there is no arrangement under which that data is sold or handed on.
The calculator is a deliberate exception. The figures you type into it, the ages of the things in your house, are worked out in your browser and are never sent anywhere, including to me and including to Google. The counting knows the page was opened. It does not know a single number you put in it.
If you would rather not be counted, any browser setting or extension that blocks Google Analytics works here. Nothing on this site is withheld from you for using one, and nothing will nag you about it.
Most pages also load their two typefaces from Google Fonts. That is a request for a font file, not a tracker: it sets no cookie, and nothing about you travels with it beyond the request itself. Block it and the site falls back to the fonts already on your device. This page is the exception: it loads no fonts and no scripts at all, so the navigation bar above is drawn in whatever type your device already had.
The free calendars
Subscribing needs no account and no email address. Your calendar app, or Google's servers on its behalf, fetches a file from this site every so often. I do not run that fetch and I cannot see who you are from it.
The site is hosted on GitHub Pages, and like any web host GitHub records requests to its servers. Those logs belong to GitHub and I have no access to them.
If you give me your email
The signup form on the home page is the only place this site asks for anything. If you use it:
- Your email address goes to MailerLite, which stores the list and sends the mail. They process it on my behalf and are not permitted to sell it or use it for anything else.
- Nothing is added until you click the confirmation link in the email that arrives. If you do not click it, the address is never on the list.
- I use it for one thing: telling you when there is something new. That is not often.
- Every email has an unsubscribe link, and it works immediately. You do not have to ask me.
I do not sell, rent, trade or share the list with anyone, and there is no arrangement under which that could change without you hearing about it first.
Links that leave the site
The buy buttons go to Etsy, and the how-to guides may link to video hosted elsewhere. Once you are on someone else's site you are under their privacy policy, not this one. I get no personal information back from Etsy about who bought what: a sale tells me a sale happened.
Asking me to remove you
Use the unsubscribe link in any email, or message me through the Etsy shop and I will take you off by hand. If you want to know what I hold on you, the answer is your email address and the date you confirmed it, and I will confirm that or delete it on request.
Children
This is a site about maintaining a house. It is not directed at children and I do not knowingly collect anything from anyone under 13.
If this changes
If I ever add anything that watches visitors, this page says so before it goes live, and the date below changes. It will not turn into a page of exceptions written to permit something.
